Wharton United Community Church to Expand Food Pantry

The Wharton United Community Church at St. John’s (WUCC) will more than double the size of its food pantry throughout this Spring.  Through the encouragement of a grant from the United Methodist Church,  WUCC’s expansion of this vital ministry will add a new a hospitality center which will serve as a brainstorming center for community-led partnerships and projects.

Partnering with the NJ Food Bank and ShopRite of Wharton, a loyal group of volunteers load in over 1000 lbs. of food weekly to the pantry and its organization and partnerships require over 80 volunteer hours/week.

It provides food – meat, bread, vegetables and pastries – for a steady 50 families per week and more than 5000 persons per year.  The pantry serves the residents of Wharton and hopes in the future to expand its reach to the surrounding communities.  The dedication of the new mission center, with town officials and business leaders, constituents, and members of WUCC will be on Pentecost, May 20th at 12 Noon at WUCC.  All are welcome to attend.  If attending, the pantry requests nonperishable food items be brought.   WUCC is a federated United Methodist and Presbyterian Church(USA).
