Presbytery Meeting Highlights

  • conversationThe Committee on Ministry welcomed three new Teaching Elders to our Presbytery since our last meeting in November.
    • Rev. Barry Young – Beemerville Presbyterian Church, Wantage
    • Rev. Scott Bohr – Harmony Presbyterian Church, Philipsburg
    • Rev. Ross Lang – Hilldale Park Presbyterian Church, Cedar Knolls
  • Johnsonburg Camp and Conference Center – Camp Director Elise Bates Russell shared a video and distributed summer camp information
  • Teaching Elder Sarah Green, AP at Presbyterian Church of Morristown, preached. The worship service focused on the Liturgical season of Epiphany
  • The members of Presbytery participated in Open Space conversations around partnerships in Stewardship, Mission Trips, Kenya Partnership, Small Church partnerships and Emerging Worship Communities/1001 Worshiping Communities.
  • Ruling Elder Lisa Gray shared information of about the 1000 Days Movement, the focus of the Presbyterian Women for 2016.
  • The Presbytery approved concurring with the following overtures that are being sent to the 222nd General Assembly this summer in Portland, Oregon. Concurrence by the Presbytery means that we agree the topic of the overture should be discussed by the General Assembly.
    • GA Overture 012 On PCUSA Fossil Fuel Divestment. This First Presbyterian Church of Washington, NJ session requested that the Presbytery of Newton consider concurring with this overture for divestment in Fossil fuels.
    • Overture (no number assigned yet) from the Synod of the Northeast, Overture on Individually Commissioned Ruling Elders”. Synod of the Northeast Mission and Ministry Commissioners Teaching Elders Amy Lincoln and Jeanne Radak (alternate commissioner) requested that the Presbytery of Newton consider concurring with this overture.
  • Missional Ministry Team presented the request of the First Presbyterian Church of Bloomsbury to dissolve the congregation effective January 9, 2016. The Presbytery approved the request and voted to appoint an Administrative Commission to work through the task of the dissolution.
  • Teaching Elder Amy Lincoln was elected to be the Commissioner to the Synod of the Northeast Ministry and Mission Commission. Teaching Elder Jeanne Radak was elected as the Alternate to Synod Ministry and Mission Commission.
