Prayer for World Aids Day

Saturday, December 1 marks the 30th World Aids Day

Presbyterian AIDS Network (PAN) encourages congregations to continue to show compassion to people in their communities infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.  A mission toolkit is available for PC(USA) congregations interested in responding to the call. Pastors, mission and outreach committees, sessions, youth group leaders and Christian educators can use these resources to better understand HIV/AIDS, find out how to support people who are infected and affected by HIV/AIDS and see why they should act locally and internationally to prevent the resurgence of infections.

It may feel like the HIV/AIDS epidemic is over or diminished but it is not. Throughout the world Families, communities, and countries are still living with HIV/AIDS. More than 35 million people have died from the disease and approximately 36.9 million people are currently living with HIV.

As we enter the season of Advent let us remember in prayer those who are living with HIV/AIDS and those who have lost loved ones to the disease.

Gracious God, our constant help and strength, we come to you in prayer for our church, our community, and our world, for all of our lives have been affected by HIV and AIDS. Reach out to us with your healing, saving touch; draw us together in wholeness and true community; extend your loving embrace to the excluded and fearful, so that all may know your life-giving power and love; through Jesus Christ, the healer of the world. Amen.
