Prayers for those without power

After two Nor’easters in less than a week that dumped feet of snow and produced high winds, many people across New Jersey, New York and New England are still without power.  Many schools are back in session as of Friday, but many are not because of roads still closed and power still out. Let us remember in prayer those who have been without power for days and in some places a week or more. Also, we offer prayers for those who are working out in the cold weather cutting up trees and branches and those working around the clock to restore power.

God of all things,

We grumble when we lose our power. especially when we are without our electricity to our homes and schools and places of business.  It only reminds us how we are powerless to things such as snow, wind and rain.

We lift up in prayer those who are without power to their homes. They are cold and tired. We pray that they have found warmth and rest with friends, or faith communities or families.  We also pray for those who are out in the cold weather doing all that they can to remove fallen trees and debris and those who are on the utility trucks lifted up high so that they can restore the power to our lives.

For those of us who are experiencing powerlessness because of the weather or other issues in our lives we give you thanks for sending people our way to fix those things that are not working, to support us, and provide that outstretched hand in those times when we need it most.

In Jesus name, Amen
