Prayer for First Presbyterian Church of Sparta

Today we continue highlighting a  Newton Presbytery congregation for our Presbytery in Prayer this week.

First Presbyterian Church of Sparta will be 232 years old this year. They are the oldest church in Sussex county still standing on its original site.  The members of First Presbyterian are energized by serving through many mission and ministries such Adopt-a-cabin, Bread ministry, Family Promise, Kenya Scholarships, Pet Ministry and Salt & Light Ministry.

We are asked to pray for them as they continue to live into a significant change in the life of the congregation.

Starting this past January, after much prayer and discernment, the congregation moved to a single unified worship service. Such changes can be difficult, but they are confident that this will lead the congregation to a stronger multigenerational church family. “We believe that this, prompted by the Holy Spirit, will push us further down the path to our common witness together in our little Jerusalem, the region, and to the ends of the earth.”

Rev. Dr. Patrick Sileo is pastor.

Let us remember in prayer the Congregation and the ministries of First Presbyterian Church of Sparta, and the church staff.

Gracious God,

We go out into the world with good news of your undying love and minister in the midst of human need, to show the wonders of your grace. We pray to day for the people, young and old, who minister for you in Sparta.  May they be strengthened by your Word and encouraged each day to go out to be the disciples you call all of us to be. Grant them great courage that they maybe brave and hopeful in your ministry, through Jesus Christ the Lord. Amen.
