November 13, 2018 Presbytery Meeting Highlights

Presbyters gathered at First Presbyterian Church of New Vernon on Tuesday afternoon November 13th for fellowship, learning, worship, and business.

Highlights of the meeting included:

  • A presentation which invited presbyters to consider how God’s heart is broken by gun violence which included a presentation on available resources led by Presbyterian Disaster Assistance which can be found here.  As well as personal testimony about the impact of gun violence from Rev. Hugh Matlack and Rev. Don Bragg who shared about their experience as chaplains to first responders.
  • Presbyters worshiped together and heard an excellent sermon offered by Rev. Dr. Ed Halldorson.
  • We heard a report from some of the commissioners to the 223rd General Assembly of the PC(USA).  Stay tuned as they will be bringing advice on amendments to the constitution of the church for voting to the presbytery in January.
  • Elder Lisa Gray presented a presentation highlighting the ministry of Presbyterian Women and challenging stereotypes of who and what that group is.
  • The 2019 Budget was adopted.
  • The Rev. Margaret Crowl was recognized and her ministry celebrated as she prepares to retire.
