Prayers for those who are lonely

The news is not good for COVID 19. Infection rates are up all over the country. Medical and Government leaders are asking us to wear masks, wash hands and social distance. The news today is also calling on people to scale back significantly the family thanksgiving gatherings to your immediate household.

With people scaling back on their family gatherings this may leave some people on their own for the holiday. Because of the COVID virus we are all isolating from our loved ones, neighbors, church community and so much more. The holiday season maybe a very lonely time for many this year.

Let us be attentive to those who maybe be alone this year because of the need to socially distance or unable to travel.  Find ways as the church and people of faith to reach out to those who maybe alone this Thanksgiving and holiday season. Creativity and Imagination are needed to assist all in being able to celebrate this holiday season.

Let us pray for this upcoming holiday season:

Gracious God, who supplies us with every blessing in abundance, lift up our hearts during this time of uncertainty.  Open us to ways in which we can connect to those who are alone during this holiday season so that we can bring God’s light into the darkness of loneliness and sadness.

We ask for courage, for strength and presence to provide comfort for those who are approaching this holiday season with anxiety, uncertainty and sadness.  Open our eyes, hearts and hands to the movement of your Spirit, who flows in us like the river whose streams make glad the city of God and the hearts of all who dwell in it  and in you.

In Jesus name, Amen.
