We have reached another milestone that we did not want to reach. Over 150000 people have died from COVID-19 in the United States. Including the US numbers the total deaths worldwide is almost 675,000. The pandemic will continue into the later months of this year.
Words cannot describe the grief, sorrow, and pain that family and friends are experiencing. Most of us by now have lost a loved one or know someone who has. Our hearts ache. Our eyes continue to tear up as we reflect on the numbers and see no real end in sight.
Let us pray,
God of our life, whose presence sustains us in every circumstance, in light of over 150,000 deaths in the United States and 675,000 worldwide, we seek the grounding power of your love and compassion. We open our hearts in anger, sorrow, anxiety, fear and hope; for those who lives, including our own, have been forever changed. May we all find solace, sustenance, and strength in the days to come.
We are grieving. We ask for courage, for strength and presence to provide comfort for those who are lost, deep in their grief. We pray for hope that the vaccine will be found and we can live without the anxiety or fear of illness.
Open our eyes, hearts and our hands to the movement of your Spirit, who flows in us like the river whose streams make glad the city of God and the hearts of all who dwell in it and in you.
