The General Assembly begins on Friday, June 19, on ZOOM.
The Assembly was to meet in Baltimore Maryland with a week of worship, conversations, committee, and plenary meetings and lots of late nights.
Normally there would be Over 680 Minster and Elder Commissioners, along with almost 200 Young Adult, Seminary and Ecumenical Advisory delegates, would meet to pray, worship, discern and decide on many issues for the Presbyterian Church (USA).
This year the Assembly will meet on June 19 on Zoom and YouTube and Facebook live for non-commissioners to elect new moderators. On June 26 and 27th the Commissioners will meet to deal with “essential” business. In between there will be several online events for commissioners and others.
Remember especially the Commissioners of the Presbytery of Newton who will be attending the General Assembly from the comfort of their own couch or desk: Ruling Elder Ken Nickel, Rev. David Young, Rev. Amy Sandlin, Ruling Elder Alec Jain and Young Adult Advisory Delegate Juliet DiBonaventure.
Let us remember our commissioners and all who have been called to serve the church at this General Assembly in prayer this week.
in Jesus Christ you called disciples and, by the Holy Spirit, made them one church to serve you. Be with the member of the Newton Presbytery as they serve as commissioners at the General Assembly.
Help them to welcome new things you are doing in the world and to recognize those things of past that can help move us forward. In their deliberation, bring about what is best for your church. As they meet, let your Spirit guide so that the whole church may be joined in love, service and mission to Jesus Christ, who having gone before us in the promise of your kingdom. Amen.
