Prayer from the Co-moderators of the 223rd General Assembly

A prayer from the AG 223 Co-Moderators…

Eternal God, sustainer, provider, God of all wisdom and knowledge,
our spirits are overwhelmed, our faith fails and our minds are clouded with news of sickness and death.

You know our thoughts before we express them; even the fears we cast aside, You know them. We can hide our thoughts and concerns from you.

We come to you, O God, as we are and just as we are, begging for wisdom, clear minds and open hearts, for calm and for the certainty that, through the crisis, You are present.

Knowing that ” the Spirit helps us in our weakness, for we do not know what is best to ask for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with unspeakable groans,”

We pray for wisdom and protection for… medical staff, scientists, doctors, nurses, and laboratory technicians; those people around the world considering the current health crisis and others already existing; health care staff and caregivers. We present them to You. Bless them with wisdom; protect them from all evil.

We pray for clear minds and open hearts…by sailing our daily lives;
when facing closures, cancellations and quarantines; by keeping our families in our homes, some caring for sick loved ones; by meeting our neighbor in our neighbourhoods, shops and pharmacies. Bless us with patience and creativity, love and understanding.

We pray for those sick people, those who have lost or are at risk of losing their jobs in the midst of this crisis, for those whose social or health services have been affected, by those who suffer the direct effects of the virus: locally and around the world I love you.

Enlighten us, Holy Spirit. Show us the ways we can be of help by caring and caring for our neighbor. Enlighten us to know how to help.

We pray for calm, certainty and strength.
Remind us that, in the midst of the crisis, Your grace reaches us, your hope illuminates us,
and your love surrounds us.

Amen.
