Advent is a time to pause amidst the chaos of the world and the season to wait and prepare for the coming of Jesus Christ. We are reminded that in this time of dark days that even in the darkness the light shines.
Salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed;
the night is far gone,
the day is near.
Eternal God, through long generations you prepared a way
for the coming of your Son, and by your Spirit you still bring light to illumine our paths.
Light the paths of those who find the darkness of the season to overwhelming or oppressive. Shine the light of hope on those who cling to what they believe is the last thread of hope. Renew all of us in faith and hope that we may welcome Christ to occupy our thoughts and claim our love, as Lord of lords and King of Kings, to whom be glory always. Amen.
