2020 is the year of the 224th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA). Each year Presbyteries and Synods overture the General Assembly to consider different issues or concerns of the church. These overtures often begin at the congregational level. Sessions send onto the Presbytery their concerns or overtures for consideration and concurrence for the Presbytery to send the overture to the General Assembly. Over the last few General Assemblies sessions have asked the Presbytery to consider overtures.
If your congregation/session has an overture you wish the Presbytery to consider please keep the following deadlines in mind. Overtures that are requesting changes to the Book of Order or Book of Confessions have to be considered at the January 11, 2020 Presbytery meeting. All other overtures must be considered at the March 10th Presbytery meeting. If there are overtures from other presbyteries that you would like to have our Presbytery consider for “concurrence” the same deadlines apply.
If you have any questions or would like to know how to write an overture, contact the Stated Clerk, Jeremy Campbell @ [email protected]
