May 14th Presbytery Meeting Highlights

The Presbytery of Newton gathered on Tuesday May 14th, for worship, work, and fellowship. Highlights of the meeting include:

  • Elder Ken Nickel of First Presbyterian Church, Boonton, was installed as Moderator of the Presbytery for 2019-2020.
  • Elder Stephanie Farley was commissioned to particular pastoral service as the CRE at Musconetcong Valley Presbyterian Church
  • The Presbytery voted to Accept the Invitation to participate in the New Jersey New Missional Communities Initiative.
  • Rev. Claire Pula was welcomed to the Presbytery as she begins her work as Interim Pastor at Highlands Presbyterian Church.
  • The COM shared a Clergy Renewal Leave Policy for first reading and received feedback.
  • Wharton United Community Church shared a story of hope including a video and presentation about Hope’s Table, a community engagement and support program.
  • First Presbyterian Church, Boonton shared a story of hope including a video about their newly opened community food pantry.
  • Presbyterian Mission Agency’s new Matthew 25 initiative was introduced with a video.
  • A lovely covered dish supper was provided by the host church and presbyters enjoyed fellowship over the meal.
  • Rev. Hugh Matlack was recognized and thanked as he completes his service as Moderator.
  • Revs. David Smazik and David Young were thanked as they completed their terms on PCT and COM respectively, each having served as Co-Chair of those bodies 5 of their 6 years.
  • Rev. Robin Currás was recognized and thanked as she completes her service as Presbytery Resourcing Coordinator.
  • A broad and hearty thank you was offered for all those cycling off presbytery bodies.
  • Presbyters were elected and re-elected to serve on various presbytery bodies and the Board of Blair Academy.
